As a fine art wedding Photographer I see my fair share of beautiful stationary, flowers and tablescapes but you know when you have found ‘kindred spirit’ clients after having sent them a handwritten thank you note on your own branded paper (300gsm since you ask) with gold foil branding (what else?) that said clients then reply with a customised crest letter headed paper with beautiful handwritten words thanking you for your thank you, (using what looked to be an old fashioned quill and ink) complete with a wax seal on the back!
I mean, does it get any better?!
These two wonderful individuals were married at Voewood House in Norfolk on a spring day earlier this year…their style, their friends, their family and most importantly their hearts and connection to each other had a profound effect on me.
It was my first same sex marriage and I was nervous. Not because I would be doing anything differently really just that I really wanted to do a good job and make sure they felt comfortable. As you know, I’m a Fine Art Wedding photographer so I really care about how details and people are portrayed I also REALLY care about how they feel when I’m photographing them so I invest a lot of time and energy into making sure my clients are comfortable.
Luckily Jamie and Christian were perfection personified and as they said they vows and the officiant pronounced them married, I saw a mother fight back tears of joy and pride…I myself had a camera infront of my face so fought to blink back tears and keep the moment in focus in camera!
Later in the day I laughed out loud with the guests when the best men told raucous stories and gasp-worthy innuendos, really there is nothing like a well timed and delivered punchline!
I also gulped down tears when I heard one of the Fathers of the groom tell of his sons struggles as a teenager….feeling that pinch of dismay in the world…
Having said that I later cried with laughter with the guests as that same father finished his speech with a reference… he said he couldn’t understand why some people had an issue with same sex marriages, because he and his wife had been having the same sex during their entire marriage and he really liked it! Hilarious!
This day was an emotional rollercoaster and I was only the photographer!
